As 2022 starts, we would like to wish everyone a great new year. Our year started off with a snowstorm. We had decided to go out for dinner but with the weather forcast for snow we went out for lunch instead. It was snowing hard as we left for home so this was the right decision. We got around 5 inches between Friday afternoon and Sunday Morning. As this year starts, we have much to be thankful for. We are thankful for all of our friends, new and old, as well as our family both near and far.
2021 was an interesting year in many ways. It has been good in many ways while sad at times. Many from our group of friends and family are no longer with us and this makes us sad. But many are still here and we are making new friends as we go along – these new friends will never replace those lost but will help us to continue along the way.
Unlike 2020, we have made a couple of trips in 2021, mostly short ones. A long anticipated trip was to Las Vegas to see long time friends Steve & Cindy Guzman. While there we saw the Hoover Dam and lots of sites in Las Vegas itself. We took a couple of short trips to places in Colorado – Trail Ridge Road and the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad. These were as spectacular as we expected. The rain at the top of Pikes Peak didn’t diminish the beauty of the view. On Labor Day weekend we went back to Kansas to see Marvin Ellis and other family members we have not seen in a long time. Seeing some of the area around Salina Kansas brought back memories of days gone by. We don’t know if we will be taking any trips next year, but we would like to do so.
With the end of September, I started a new, temporary job with the Weld County Election office. I have learned more about how elections are conducted in our county (as well as the state) than I ever wanted to know. If you are ever wondering how the election process works, volunteer as an Election Judge – it will be fasinating! At this point, we are a short break but it is uncertain how long the temporary job will last. It was quite a transition from being completely retired to a normal (8 to 5, M to F) work day.
We have continued to do some work around our new home here in Greeley Colorado, but still have more to do. We are enjoying living in Greeley – a much smaller city with everything much closer – except family. The pace of life is slower and with everything much closer, we are spending a lot less on gas for the cars. We do continue to make trips to be with family and plan on continuing to do so. Phone calls and emails allow us to keep up with others when we can’t be together. We hope that the new year will be a better one for everyone.
